The Glass House

Gulpen

The dream house is a true project dream for Chapters. The owners of this house, a family with a daughter, have given Chapters free rein to create an architectural home in a natural environment. Chapters designed the entire concept and architecture of this home. The result is a detached bungalow home designed to receive and entertain guests — a wish of the owners.

An architectural dream and a tribute to ultimate luxury

The house is characterized by large windows with lots of light, a light silhouette, and the use of natural materials such as wood and stone in both the interior and exterior.

At the entrance of the house, the large wooden door, centered between two tall windows, immediately gives an impression of the style of the house — a modern design with a serene atmosphere. The hall is characterized by a feature wall with a picturesque wallpaper; a life-size work of art. Behind this wall is a glass winter garden, which is furnished as an office space and is accessible from the hall. The glass wall panels open up an amazing view of the garden.

In the open character of the house, different areas are created by large dividing walls with rounded corners — to maintain the organic flow within the house.

The hall leads you to a sitting room with a modular designer sofa with double seating that faces the TV and looks out to the garden. The hanging fireplace is the attractive centerpiece of the living room. The built-in wall cupboard in the wooden panel with space for heirlooms and souvenirs makes the living room more personal. Thanks to the split-level design, the living room brings a sense of coziness to the open character of the house.

The kitchen is located at the rear of the ground floor, where the natural onyx kitchen countertop with green and white tones steals the show. The kitchen countertop double functions as a bar with stylish bar chairs. The countertop is separated into two ends by a wood-clad column with glass doors, that serves as a wine rack and as a display cabinet.

As an extension of the bar area, a low dining area with comfortable armchairs is the ultimate space for extensive dinners and entertaining guests. The character of the onyx stone of the bar is reflected in the rich, green upholstery of the armchairs. The low dining area is styled with an interplay of midcentury-modern hanging lamps.

The walls are covered with dark wooden panels and rich textured wallpaper in a neutral colour, creating an attractive, serene space. In the wooden panel of the back wall we include the onyx stone in the form of a built-in niche. The entire space is characterized by round, organic shapes throughout the interior and offers a view of the garden.

The organic round shapes have also been implemented in the design of the master bedroom, which is furnished as a hotel suite with a sitting room, a bathroom, and a bedroom.

The showpiece in the entire room is the double-sided stone partition wall between the living room and the bedroom, in which the bathroom with double shower is located. The sleeping area is an architectural dream — the glass wall panels can be opened, connecting the interior and exterior. The freestanding bath in the bedroom that overlooks the garden is a tribute to ultimate luxury.
